Besides the rising popularity of THC in the world of medical marijuana, there’s another acronym that has been growing its popularity as a wellness ingredient. This is CBD which is one of the over 100 chemicals in cannabis. The product comes from oil and is usable like placing it under the tongue for faster absorption, body lotion, face serum, olive oil, jam, bath scrub, cold-brew coffee, sports salve, lip balm, infused water, gummy snacks, and even dog treats. These products may be like the normal one with no CBD, however, it is pricy when CBD is in its formula.
With THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol, users would get high within minutes which may prove a hindrance to the daily activities of a consumer. But CBD or Cannabidiol being a part of cannabis doesn’t give you the feeling of “High.”
What is CBD?
CBD is described as a non-psychoactive chemical compound that doesn’t alter a person’s mental state. The extracting method used in CBD which is from the hemp plant gets less than 0.3 percent THC, while other cannabis products have more THC resulting in the “high” state.
Currently, there are still a lot of unknown wonders about the CBD which is why the FDA only allows the use of CBD oil in specific cases like Epilepsy. The FDA approved the drug that contains CBD is Epidiolex, is in the “least restrictive” category of controlled substances by the Drug Enforcement Agency which is the same category as a cough medicine like Robitussin AC.
Appeals and Drawbacks of CBD
Still, the use of CBD and legalization is under a complicated web of legal concerns. These concepts are also not legal in all 50 states under federal law although CBD oil products are legal in more states than medicinal marijuana. With the growing numbers of possibilities of how CBD oil is usable in those states, the rise in popularity for CBD use in food products is still growing.
Now, the FDA has approved the use of CBD in treating Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome which are two forms of epilepsy. Pro skateboarder Matt Miller started a CBD brand Miller Healer by making CBD sports salves and Patches as the company’s main product. Even Stacy Verbiest, who founded the therapeutic women’s cannabis line Wink with creams and tinctures, commented that CBD helped her friend manage the pain of cancer treatments. Some pet owners buy cat and dog treats containing CBD. With these remarks, the CBD help inflammation, ease seizure attacks and treat different varieties of anxiety and pain without the need of being “High.”
Although the benefits of CBD are endless, the effect in each person may differ and some folks might find discomfort of the effects of CBD. Start CBD products in a small amount of dosage and watch out for side effects of CBD oil such as diarrhea, nausea, dry mouth or dizziness. However, side effects may differ depending on the quality of the product.
Popularity on the Rise
With the growing fame of CBD in the market, a lot of entrepreneurs opened new products and endorse it to consumers as a healthy product. The Marijuana research firm Greenwave Advisors even expects that the CBD industry will approach $3 billion by the year 2021 and over $200 billion in the U.S. once the “Farm Bill” for legalizing hemp as a crop.
Once the restrictions of the CBD in every state have changed, the possibility of using CBD in every product is endless. It might be a key to success to some entrepreneurs and a sense of relief to consumers.
